2018 New York Auto Show Highlights

Just days after the Geneva Auto Show where automakers mostly reveal their global focused model, the New York Auto Show takes center stage to reveal what automakers have for the North American automotive market. The New York Auto Show is famed for automaker’s tendency to pair fantasy with the reality as they debut both cars you can walk into a showroom and buy, some that are only available to well-oiled few personalities and others that showcase what they think about the future of automotive. Here are the top highlights from the 2018 show:

2019 Audi RS5 Sportback

The RS5 Sportback is a performance variant of the 4-door A5 Sportback. The automaker has revised the model’s exterior stance to look more sporty and aggressive. It backs its aggressive body with a twin-turbocharged 2.9 L, V-6 mill good for 444 hp. It can accelerate to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited at 155mph. It will hit dealerships in the second half of 2018.

 

2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport

To elicit more attention for the Cadillac CT6, the automaker has decided to give it a V-Sport performance variant. Although the model comes with minor technology and styling upgrades, the most significant addition is the exclusive twin-turbocharged 4.2 L, V-8 mill under its hood.

2019 Cadillac XT4

After watching from a far as automakers made huge profits from the small crossover segment, Cadillac has decided enough is enough and has produced its own small crossover dubbed the “Cadillac XT4”. It will sit under the XT5 mid-size SUV. The XT4 will be the automaker’s flagship crossover and will be available from only $35,790. It will go head to head with the Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3.

 

2019 GMC Sierra AT4

No Auto show in the U.S. is complete without the presence of a pickup truck as no other people can rival the Americans love for trucks, particularly performance-oriented trucks. To add to its premium lineup of performance-oriented trucks, GM released an off-road ready Sierra. The truck comes with a factory-installed lift kit, locking rear differential, Rancho monotube shocks, a 2-speed transfer case, as well as standard AWD. Under the hood is a 5.3 L, V-8 mill hooked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

 

2019 Kia K900

Kia has revised its flagship sedan to improve is desirability in the market in a segment full of other capable models. The 2019 model gets a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree view camera, 12.3-inch touch-screen, and heated and ventilated seats among others. Its power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.3 L, V-6; the same engine that powers the Stinger GT. The model has a rear-biased AWD system.

2018 Lincoln Aviator Concept

The Lincoln has since lost its former glory but the automaker has revised its strategy to fit into the modern market. Lincoln surprised the world at New York Auto Show with a debut of a production-ready concept. It has a twin-turbocharged engine and will be had in either AWD or RWD. It is riddled with lots of luxury features and can accommodate up to 7 passengers. The model is built on a new platform.

2019 Jaguar F-Pace SVR

It’s been a good year for Jaguar; the Range Rover Velar was ranked the best in the world in terms of design. At New York, Jaguar showcased performance iteration of the F-Pace. Christened the F-Pace SVR.; the Jaguar is powered by a supercharged V8 power-plant that delivers 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque enabling the model to hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. To support the supercharged mill are larger brakes, SVR-tuned chassis as well as an aerodynamic package. The F-Pace is Jaguar’s top-selling model and the SVR package is set to strengthen its position.

2019 Mercedes-AMG C63

The C-Class is Mercedes-Benz’s best seller. The AMG C63 is the “top dog’ in this segment. The automaker has enhanced the model for the 2019 model year to strengthen its position in the market. The AMG C63 is powered by a bi-turbo V-8 mill with a displacement of 4.0 liters. The mill is paired with a 9-speed AMG Speedshift gearbox. The mill has two states of power i.e. 469 hp and 503 hp. The AMG C63 can be had in coupe, sedan or convertible body styles.

2019 Bugatti Chiron Sport

After showcasing it in Geneva, Bugatti shipped the Chiron Sport to the U.S. The Chiron Sport is a more exclusive variant of the already exclusive Chiron hypercar.  It boasts of a 40-lbs lighter curb-weight, better handling and superior agility over the standard model. For the exclusivity, buyers will part with over $3.25 million.

2018 Genesis Essentia Concept

The Essentia concept is an electric performance car. It is based on a carbon-fiber platform. It previews the future of Hyundai’s premium brand. The automaker is preparing to enter into the premium car segment with a bang.

Rolls-Royce Wraith Luminary

The Wraith Luminary is finally out; Roll-Royce took to New York to flaunt its new model whose production will be limited to 55 units. It features stainless steel hand-woven upholstery and a shooting star headliner (this is achieved by use of 176 LED lights). Other features include Sunburst Grey paint and illuminated wood paneling.

2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo

Although it is an SUV, the Levante Trofeo is among the automaker’s fastest models. The Levante Trofeo needs 3.7 seconds to dash to 60 mph and has a top speed of 187 mph. This is courtesy of its twin-turbocharged V-8 mill. The engine produces 590 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque.

2019 Infiniti QX80 Limited

Infiniti was in the house displaying a limited version of the large QX80 crossover. The limited model features 22-inch wheels, steel running boards, and an exclusive Anthracite Gray exterior color. The cabin of the model features semi-aniline leather, open-pore ash wood, Alcantara as well as black Ultrasuede headliner. TheQX80 Limited is hooked to a 5.6 L, V-8 that is rated at 400 hp.

2019 Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai has a new electric EV dubbed the “Hyundai Kona Electric”; it boasts of a 250-mile range which beats the Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model 3. The automaker targets the EV to eco-conscious buyers that lead an active lifestyle. The Kona Electric will be sold in select markets only.
