2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport

The CT6 was the first model to adopt Cadillac’s new naming strategy; also, it was the first model to be based on a lightweight, aluminum-infused Omega architecture. The model now becomes the third Cadillac to get a V-Sport treatment after the XTS and CTS sedans. The current CT6 sedan uses 4- and 6-cylinder mills making it difficult for the model to effectively compete with the “A-listers” from Germany. Cadillac has however solved this problem by designing a new V-8 mill for the CT6 meant to up its power game and give the likes of BMW 750, Audi S8 and Mercedes-AMG E63 a good run for their money. The 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport will be the first model to use this engine.

Compared to the standard CT6, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport gets several performance upgrades. From afar, the model looks like a regular Cadillac sedan; only when you look closely do you recognize features that hint at its monstrous V-8 mill. The model has a V-shaped mesh grille flanked by new, horizontal LED headlights. The model, however, retains vertical lighting signature like the current regular CT6 models.

The V-Sport rides on exclusive 20-inch wheels enclosed in summer performance tires. If you look closely at the wheels, you will definitely recognize the huge 19-inch Brembo brakes. At the rear, the model gets revised LED taillights as well as a revised exhaust system.

Other enhancements for the V-Sport include a mechanical limited-slip differential that enhances traction at the rear, stiffer suspension geometry and enhanced Magnetic Ride Control settings for better handling.

Interior

Inside, the most significant change is the updated infotainment system that comes with a 10-inch touch-screen.  The V-Sport does not, however, feature the Super Cruise semi-autonomous technology like regular CT6 models. For safety, the CT6 V-sport will feature forward collision alerts, blind spot warnings, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, around-view monitor, automatic parking assist, surround-vision recorder, front and rear pedestrian detection and night vision in its instrument panel. The surround-vision recorder acts as a dash cam (front and rear).

Engine and performance

Cadillac has designed a spanking new, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine for the CT6 V-Sport. GM plans to use this engine exclusively for Cadillac models. The new V-8 mill has a displacement of 4.2 liters. The engine is rated at 550 hp and 627lb-ft of torque. The new mill has what the automaker calls “hot V” configuration, where turbochargers are mounted on top of the mill. This has helped reduce packaging size of the engine; it has also helped to reduce turbo lag due to enhanced airflow.

The company has also added a stop-start system and cylinder deactivation system to enhance the model’s fuel economy. The engine mates to a 10-speed automatic gearbox that has a 7.39 gear ratio. Power is routed to all wheels but the system has an enhanced torque split with a rear bias. Cadillac is yet to release official performance figures of the vehicle but definitely, it will be no slouch; it will also be more fuel efficient.
