2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi
At-a-glance

Ultra high performance version of the Subaru Impreza WRX, completely re-engineered to provide world class sports car levels of acceleration, handling and braking performance.

STI stands for Subaru Tecnica International, the high-performance and motorsports development division of Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.

What's New for 2005

  • Changes made to improve the already stellar handling in the WRX STi include: new steering rack with "cannon mount" for greater precision and feel; revised DCCD AWD programming and a new helical-type limited-slip front differential to further enhance grip through tight corners; the standard BBS brand light-alloy wheels are now 17 x 8-inches compared to 17 x 7.5-inch on the 2004 model (tire size remains the same: 225/45ZR17)

  • Suspension has been modified to accommodate the wider wheels, and rear track has been increased from 58.5 inches to 58.9 for enhanced stability.

  • Other suspension changes include a new 3-point rear crossmember mount, plus aluminum rear suspension lateral links to reduce unsprung weight. Also, strut jounce and rebound have been reduced by 10 mm. Brake feel has also been improved.

  • New aerodynamic underbody cover contributes to enhanced high track speed stability.

  • Redesigned, more upscale interior with new dashboard, center console and door panels, plus new details to enhance comfort and function. Additional new exclusive features for 2005 include new blue door panels match the upholstery and higher-friction seat fabric that provides better grip on occupants during cornering maneuvers.

  • New standard equipment includes an automatic climate control system with air filtration system and a 140-watt AM/FM premium stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and six speakers.

  • Standard security system gains new engine immobilizer with transponder ignition key.

    Key Facts

  • Powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder boxer engine featuring Subaru Active Valve Control System (AVCS) variable valve timing. Engine produces 300 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft. of peak torque @ 4,000 rpm.

  • 6-speed manual transmission with transmission cooler.

  • Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system with Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) featuring automatic and manual modes optimizes power distribution for all road and driving conditions. Front and rear limited-slip differentials help to increase traction and reduce understeer.
