    STI stands for Subaru Tecnica International, the high-performance and motorsports development division of Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.



    What's New for 2006
     
  • Restyled to reflect new brand identity; Subaru signature front-end design for Impreza features a three-section mesh type grill inspired by the company's aircraft heritage, plus boldly styled headlights with smoke tinted lenses; new tail lamp cluster design.
  • Dual-stage Subaru Advanced Frontal Airbag System.
  • New roof vane spoiler contributes to enhanced track speed stability.
  • New rear underbody diffuser.
  • New side sill spoiler design.
  • Lower profile hood scoop from the standard WRX aids forward visibility but maintains engine airflow due to the improved aerodynamics of the redesigned front-end; Daytime Running Lights (DRL) help make the WRX STI more visible to other drivers.
  • Addition of a steering sensor input to the DCCD All-Wheel Drive system enhances power distribution response by more accurately relaying the car's cornering situation.
     Addition of new mechanical limited slip differential to the DCCD. Enhances torque transfer and overall performance of the AWD system.
  • Default torques split is now 41:59.

  •  Powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder boxer engine featuring Subaru Active Valve Control System (AVCS) variable valve timing. Engine produces 300 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft. of peak torque @ 4,000 rpm.
  • 6-speed manual transmission.
  • Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system with Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) featuring automatic and manual modes optimizes power distribution for all road and driving conditions. Front, center and rear limited-slip differentials help to increase traction and reduce understeer.
  • Performance directed design features new body-color STI design aerodynamic ground effects side molding, black aluminum roof vane spoiler, dual-plane rear spoiler, rear underbody diffuser wide flare front fenders and rear quarter panels and STI foglight insert covers. The 4-beam headlight system utilizes high-intensity discharge (HID) low-beams with daytime running lights.
  • Aluminum alloy hood with integral scoop supplies outside air to intercooler; manually operated water spray feature enhances intercooler efficiency during high-performance driving.
  • Super stiff Ring Frame Reinforced body structure with a hydroformed front subframe provides outstanding occupant protection in a collision.
