Jeep Liberty Diesel

Jeep Liberty offered the first diesel in the U.S. mid-size SUV segment in the 2005 model year. Returning in 2006 in the Liberty is the 2.8-liter common rail diesel (CRD) engine. The 2.8-liter CRD is available on the 4x4 Sport and Limited models, providing those vehicles with the torque of a V-8, the performance of a V-6 and the fuel economy of a four-cylinder engine.

Providing class-leading torque and unsurpassed towing of 5,000 lbs., the 2.8-liter CRD engine is rated at an estimated 160 horsepower (120 kW) at 3,800 rpm and with 295 lb.-ft. (400 Nm) of torque at 1,800 rpm. Highway driving range is approximately 500 highway miles on a tank of fuel, the best in the mid-size SUV class. Jeep Liberty diesel's estimated mileage is 21 city / 26 highway, providing up to 32 percent better fuel economy than comparable gas engines. Diesel engines reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20 percent.
