Astra GTC Passive safety

Astra GTC features the same extensive safety concept as the five-door model. The independent consumer protection organization Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) tested the safety of the Astra sedan in a series of standardized crash tests. As a result, it was awarded the highest rating of five stars for passenger protection. With a total of 34 points, Euro NCAP classified it as one of the safest sedans in the compact class (small family cars). The Astra also achieved very good results for child protection, with four stars and 39 points.

Astra GTC's extensive SAFETEC safety package includes voluminous, shape-optimized thorax/pelvis side airbags in front. These complement the two front airbags and the head curtain airbags that stretch along the entire length of the interior in the left and right roof pillars.

The five Astra GTC variants feature comprehensive standard equipment. Highlights include:
Astra GTC - Radio remote control central locking, heated power exterior mirrors, power windows in front, height and reach-adjustable steering wheel, height-adjustable driver's seat, front seats with Easy Entry and memory function, rear bench seat back in 60:40 split
Astra GTC Edition - Air conditioning, stereo CD-radio, leather steering wheel, Park Pilot, Visibility package (photochromatic rear-view mirror, automatically controlled center console lighting, Automatic Lighting Control (ALC), rain sensor)
Astra GTC Sport - IDS sport chassis, 16-inch alloy wheels in five-spoke sports design, leather sport steering wheel, sport seats in front, aluminum sport pedals, polished stainless steel exhaust tailpipe
Astra GTC Cosmo - Leather steering wheel, comfort front seats in sporty look
Astra OPC - 2.0-liter turbo engine with 240 hp, 18-inch alloy wheels, Recaro sport seats in front, IDSPlus sport chassis, fabric/leather upholstery, special OPC parts (including exhaust system, brakes, radiator grille, roof aerofoil, bumper and door sills)

A range of over 50 extras is available, including the steering-linked AFL bi-xenon headlamp system (Adaptive Forward Lighting) with dynamic curve light, automatic air conditioning, up to 18-inch alloy wheels and a range of infotainment systems with intuitive operation.


Chassis and active safety

The basis for the GTC's pronounced agility and precise handling is provided by the IDS (Interactive Driving System) chassis with McPherson front axle and patented torsion-beam rear axle.
Astra GTC comes standard with Electronic Stability Program ESPPlus, Traction Control TCPlus, front and rear disk brakes, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Brake Assist and electro-hydraulic power steering.

A new dimension of balance between driving comfort and active safety is provided by the optional adaptive IDSPlus chassis (standard with OPC) with electronic Continuous Damping Control (CDC). In this integrated chassis control system, the control units and sensors of ESPPlus, ABS and CDC exchange data constantly, thereby optimizing road-holding properties. GTC owners also benefit from IDSPlus when it comes to driving fun: a touch of the SportSwitch activates the sport mode, resulting in more direct suspension, steering and gas pedal response, as well as modified shift points in the automatic and Easytronic transmission variants.
