BMW at the British International Motor Show

BMW marks its return to the British International Motor Show with two world firsts and one of the most dramatic 'stands' ever seen at such an event. The BMW Group Plaza - an 11,000 square-metre area at the front of the ExCeL centre - hosts the global unveiling of the first ever BMW M6 Convertible. BMW's most expensive production car and fastest ever soft-top, is also the first ever BMW to receive its world debut at a British Motor Show.

In total, 21 BMW road cars take pride of place in the BMW Group Plaza. As well as the M6 Convertible, a brand new 7 Series Exclusive Edition (also by M GmbH) receives its world debut and visitors to the show will see the first ever BMW Z4 Coupe. Motor sport, motorcycles and BMW's golfing and sailing activities are also represented.

BMW's involvement in global motor sport is highlighted with a BMW Sauber Formula 1 show car, current World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx's WTCC 320si and a Formula BMW single-seater are all present. Whilst BMW's expanding and highly acclaimed motorcycle range is represented by three brand new bikes - the R1200 GS Adventure, K1200 R and F800 S.

BMW's high profile partnerships with top-level golf and yachting events adds a unique flavour to the BMW Group Plaza. A full size version of the BMW Oracle America's Cup showboat is on display - the first time ever such a yacht has been to the UK - and a hole-in-one contest with a floating green on the Royal Albert Dock will appeal to golfers and raise money for charity. Tickets to next year's BMW Championship to be held at Wentworth are offered as a prize.

But it is always the cars that take centre stage at a motor show and BMW will be presenting the whole of its expanded range. Since BMW's last British Motor Show the model line-up has trebled in size and the BMW Group Plaza is the ideal location to showcase the range in full.

Jim O'Donnell, BMW (UK) Managing Director, said: "UK car buyers play a significant part in the fortunes of BMW and the BMW Group is now one of the UK's most important car manufacturing businesses, so we are delighted to be back at the British International Motor Show. With the most prominent position of any manufacturer we hope the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected over the next two weeks will visit the BMW Group Plaza and enjoy what we have to offer. With two world premieres and an exciting line-up of the latest models the show promises to be one of the most important for BMW in 2006."
