| Dodge SRT4 and LER Top American Finisher at Cannonball One Lap
The defending-champion Lake Effect Racing team, driving the Dodge Neon SRT4, was the top American-made finisher in the Mid-Priced Sedan class at the Cannonball One Lap of America May 13. The eight-day race concluded at the Tire Rack Test Course in South Bend, Indiana, with LER taking fifth among 14 total cars in its class, finishing behind three Subaru's and a Mitsubishi Lancer. Great job Dale, Jamin, and Nancy!
KICKER hooked up with the LER team shortly after becoming the factory provider for DaimlerChrysler's Dodge Neon, Charger, Magnum, and Chrysler 300C SRT platforms almost three years ago.
(the following is the story from MAY 5) Burt Reynolds? Farrah Fawcett? Jackie Chan? Terry Bradshaw? Not in this race. This is the REAL Cannonball Run, the one journalist Brock Yates (of Car and Driver magazine fame) first put together in 1984, testing the endurance of vehicles and their drivers in a cross-country autocross.
And for the third straight year, KICKER will outfit the returning-champion Lake Effect Racing team with hammering stereo systems for the upcoming Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America, which gets underway May 6 in South Bend, Indiana. Get complete dates and stops by clicking on the One Lap link.
Lake Effect will be running its blue 2004 Dodge Neon SRT4 (carrying complete Mopar Performance upgrades) with drivers Dale Seeley, Nancy Becker, and Jamin Cummings listening to their favorite tunes during the eight-day road race. This year the SRT4 will be followed by the LER Media Van carrying Viosport video cameras, computers, and five other members of the LER team filming footage from the nearly 4,000 miles covered through eight different states.
Last year the LER team earned the victory in the One Lap's Mid-Priced Sedan class, finishing faster than a Mitsubishi, three Subaru's, a BMW, an Infiniti, and a Mazda. As Seeley reminds his fellow competitors on the LER website, "(The Neon's) a cute car, not a fast car…"
One Lap drivers begin and end their quest at title sponsor The Tire Rack's test track in South Bend, and in between teams run timed events at Autobahn Country Club in Illinois, Mid-America Motorplex in Iowa, No Problem Raceway in Louisiana, Roebling Road in Georgia, Florence Speedway in South Carolina, Virginia International Raceway, Putnam Park Road Course and U.S. 41 Dragway in Indiana, and Road America in Wisconsin.
