Dunlop Direzza Drag Slick Race Tire Engineered For Professional Use
Dunlop's Direzza line of tires is racing upscale in the motorsports world with a new competition bias-ply drag slick for sport compact professional-level cars.
New production will make the tires available in early 2006. The new Dunlop Direzza race tire, available in separate designs for front- and rear-wheel-drive vehicles, is constructed for professional use only.
Dunlop racing officials said the tires - in 28.0x10.0-15, 28.0x9.0-15 and 33.0x17.0-15 - are sized to race on NOPI, IDRA and NHRA sport compact and custom race cars.
Both designs utilize a D-6 tread compound, which offers a good balance between grip and resistance to "graining" under high slip ratios, according to Mike Pulte, manager for vehicle personalization.
The front-wheel-drive construction is tuned to generate grip under low vertical loads. "This is important due to weight transfers off the drive tires at launch. In addition, the tire is designed to provide extraordinary grip and controlled growth for its size," Pulte said.
Rear-wheel-drive construction features a special sidewall design to complement a car's full suspension for better reaction times at launch. A robust tire is necessary to handle higher horsepower developed at relatively low torque for continuous traction down the track, he said.
The new Direzza racing slicks are available from authorized race tire distributors.
Dunlop is a global tire brand with an excellent reputation among performance car enthusiasts.
