Ford Galaxy introduces 'kinetic design', the fluid new design language for Ford of Europe which design expresses energy in motion. 'Kinetic design' was explored in its purest form by the 2005 Ford iosis Concept, and many of the elements contained in that vehicle can be seen echoed in the design details of the new Galaxy.

Ford Galaxy combines 'kinetic design' elements with MPV spaciousness, first class comfort levels and Ford's acclaimed driving quality. In addition, this second generation of Ford's successful people mover introduces new levels of interior flexibility with the innovative Ford FoldFlatSystem (FFS) plus major new technologies focused on driver assistance and occupant safety.

"We are extremely proud of the new Ford Galaxy," said Kevin O'Neill, Executive Director for Large and Luxury vehicles, Ford of Europe. "This vehicle will surprise not only existing and loyal Galaxy customers, but many customers who may not have considered a Ford before. Its unique combination of attributes will strengthen Galaxy's appeal in the MPV segment, and we expect it to be even stronger than the highly successful model it succeeds."

Ford Galaxy Exterior

Viewed from any angle, the new Ford Galaxy is an elegant yet dynamic full-size people mover.

"We felt we were able to achieve a great deal in terms of style with the new Galaxy by giving it a lower stance but also by giving the front end a unique shape," said Claudio Messale, Chief Designer for Galaxy and S-MAX. "The front end has an almost bullet-shaped nose with a three-plane plan view, which is a key element of our 'kinetic design' language, and which gives Ford Galaxy an energetic and self-assured image."

First and foremost among the goals of the design team of the new Galaxy was to provide a true seven-seat vehicle that offers first-class travel throughout. Another objective was to offer more space than other vehicles in the segment without sacrificing a luxurious and stylish exterior appearance.

For Messale's team, it was critical to create a more solid stance to give the Galaxy shape a truly dynamic feel. This was achieved partly by keeping the vehicle lower to the ground as well as lower overall than its predecessor. New Ford Galaxy provides exceptional interior headroom but still allows easy access to confined spaces like public car parks.

Dynamic appearance - The wider track (1,589mm, +59mm front,/1,605 mm, + 81mm rear vs. previous model) is one of the features that lend Galaxy a more dynamic appearance. Pronounced wheel arches and the strong line which runs from behind the front wing to the tail lamp strongly enhance the Galaxy's modern profile, and are also typical elements of Ford's 'kinetic design' form language.

Front-end styling - The front end of Ford Galaxy is characterised by its distinctively angled nose and dynamic headlamps which give it a purposeful appearance. Fog lamps are encased neatly in the lower bumper and set wide to each side, a trait which expresses the vehicle's width and accentuates its lower stance.

Ford Galaxy can be specified with Ford's Adaptive Front Light System (AFLS) as one of two lighting options. AFLS uses cost-effective halogen lights which swivel according to the steering angle - with up to 12 degrees of movement - to provide better visibility around corners.

For high-series models, an optional Bi-Xenon Adaptive Front Lighting system is available which includes additional static cornering lights at speeds under 70 kph, plus automatic headlamp levelling and washer jets.
