| | | | Ford FoldFlatSystem (FFS) for modularity and flexibility
The new Ford Galaxy is a full seven-seater and is equipped with the innovative new Ford FoldFlatSystem (FFS) for the five rear seats.
FFS enables the 2nd and 3rd row seating areas to be easily transformed into a completely flat load space without having to remove and store the seats. This allows customers to drive fully loaded to their destination whilst still having a full complement of 7 seats available upon arrival - the best of both worlds. In total, FFS allows up to 32 different seating combinations.
Independent 2nd and 3rd row seats are all adjustable and provide spacious first class travel for up to 7 adults, distinguishing the all new Ford Galaxy from its competitors. An easy entry, 'tip and slide' system provides easy access between the 2nd and 3rd rows, and changing the second-row configuration can easily be done with a one-step operation. The third row seats require a simple two-step movement.
Ease of operation was also a primary focus in the seat design. To make recliner adjustment easier, a rotary wheel is used to adjust the seat back setting, giving seamless, infinite operation while providing a self-locking feature. Engineers also improved the visual appearance of the seats, using a direct-to-track bolting operation based directly under the seat instead of at the end of the seat tracks. This eliminated any need for visible plastic parts or any unsightly metal.
The spacious second and third row seats offer premium comfort in an individually designed seat . They also offer an increase in seat adjustment of 50mm for the second row and 60mm for the third row over the first-generation model. This opens up the interior more for either occupants or luggage.
Compared to the second row of the previous model, the new Galaxy offers an increase in head room of 59mm (1,022mm vs. 963mm) and a rear-view head clearance increase of 24mm. Similar to S-MAX, Ford Galaxy features an increase in heel to H-point (the position of the occupant's hip) of 64mm (380mm vs. 316mm).
The third seating row of the new Ford Galaxy also offers several significant advantages when it comes to interior roominess, including a 66 mm side-view head clearance increase, a 180mm increase in shoulder room and a legroom increase of 33mm. Even in reclined position, the third-row seats offer more rear-view head clearance than the previous generation.
The even but slightly inclined floor makes it possible to place the second seat row higher than the first and the third one higher than the second. This creates a theatre seating effect, which ensures that rear passengers have a clear view through the front screen.
Another positive effect of this arrangement for rear passengers is that by being able to see the forward horizon in focus, travel sickness may be avoided in many cases.
New Ford Galaxy offers the same generous knee clearance despite approximately one third increase in luggage volume over the previous model in any of the 32 possible seating configurations.
Trim
Ford Galaxy will be available with a range of high quality and tactile interior trims that are designed to be durable as well as attractive. Premium materials such as leather and wood ornamentations are designed to be pleasing to look at and to touch.
The interior is allergy tested and all materials used minimise the risk of allergenic reactions and meet strict standards based upon criteria set by an independent testing institute (TUV). It is anticipated that the new Galaxy will achieve Allergy Tested certification later in 2006.
