All of the carrier systems have been thoroughly crash-tested to ensure that occupants have the best possible protection.

Also available are both small and large internal storage boxes - as well as a cooling box - to allow occupants to transport their belongings safely, cleanly and securely, an excellent alternative to out-of-vehicle stowage.

"Our intention with this new vehicle was to raise the industry bar for vehicle flexibility," said Michael Eisler, Manager Ford Customer Service Division. "Looking at the configuration flexibility and the load carrying capacity, we believe that we have achieved that goal."

Audio and Communications: The Ford S-MAX can be specified with a wide variety of high-quality audio and communications systems, and steering-wheel mounted toggle switches for the HMI system provide full driver control.

Depending on market and on series, stereo radio/cassette or stereo radio/CD players can be selected, including a 6-CD autochanger. Eight high quality speakers are fitted.

An optional multi-media DVD system can also be specified. This includes a DVD player located under the front passenger's seat, two LCD screens integrated into the rear of the front seat headrests, an infra red remote control and two pairs of infra red headphones.

Either a Bosch Blaupunkt TravelPilot EX radio navigation system or a DVD navigation system can be chosen as optional equipment. The radio navigation system uses a 4-inch monochrome display, while the DVD Navigation system features a full colour 7-inch touchscreen display. Both systems are MP3 compatible.

A Bluetooth hands-free telephone and voice control system is also available, and comes complete with a dealer-fitted telephone cradle, which provides battery charging, plus a neat tri-band antenna fitted to the roof of the vehicle.

A new generation of Sony in-car Hi-Fi components will be available from autumn 2006. All of the new audio equipment will be able to communicate with Ford's new HMI-system and can be operated via voice control.

S-MAX Choice

(Note: Equipment may vary according to individual market specifications)

The new Ford S-MAX will be available in three distinct series - Core, Trend and Titanium. An X-Pack will also be available for the Titanium, while a Sports Pack can be specified for Trend and Titanium models. This comprehensive line-up is designed to fit all customer needs.

While the Core model is the entry-level Ford S-MAX, it will not be poorly specified. Offering all the essentials and including the new Ford FoldFlatSystem and an enhanced Intelligent Protection System, Ford S-MAX Core model will appeal to price-sensitive customers, perhaps trading up from a traditional sedan or wagon.

The Trend series has been carefully equipped to represent outstanding value for money, and will be the volume seller in the new range. Standard features like the EATC Air Conditioning system and sports seats will set it apart from the competition.

At the top of the range, the Titanium model offers a 'modern-techno' feel. Such standard features as a 'metal finish' instrument panel, 17-inch alloy wheels, auto lighting and rain sensing wipers, and powered/heated door mirrors with puddle lights will attract premium buyers.
