Best in Class Residuals for Ford S-Max and Ford Galaxy






Ford's all-new S-MAX and Galaxy MPV's will return class-leading residual values according to car-value experts.

Eurotaxglass, Emmox and CAP all agree that both the S-MAX and Galaxy are very good news financially and are sure to be a big hit with fleet and retail customer when they go on sale in June.

According to Eurotaxglass's forecasting editor, Jason King, the new Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCi Zetec, which he describes as "a very interesting derivation from other large MPVs, and a revelation in the way it handles" - is expected to retain around 42 per cent of list price after 60,000 miles / three years.


This performance exceeds the similarly priced Mitsubishi Grandis 2.0 DiD Classic (39 per cent), the Toyota Corolla Verso 2.2 D-4D T180 (41 per cent) and the Vauxhall Zafira 1.9CDTi SRi (36 per cent) - the last of which will suffer depreciation of 12,052 UK Pounds against the S-MAX's 11,347 UK Pounds.


Independent figures supplied by Carcost by Emmox show the new Ford Galaxy Zetec 1.8TDCi 125PS will cost 2,493 UK Pounds less to run over three years / 60,000 miles than the Citroen C8 SX HDi 2.2DT 130. And the new Galaxy Ghia 2.0TDCi 140PS will cost 2,533 UK Pounds less over three years / 60,000 miles than Renault's New Espace Expression 2.2dCi 150. That is a saving of more than 16 UK Pounds a week, every week, for three years.

The Carcost comparison shows that fuel costs and service, maintenance and repair costs are lower over three years/60,000 miles than those of comparable VW Sharan, Renault Espace, Citroen C8 and Toyota Previa models.


Additionally, the CAP and Carcost figures both show the new seven-seat Ford Galaxy to offer extremely good residual values - beating virtually all of the competition and bettering even the current Galaxy by up to seven per cent.


CAP's national research manager, Martin Ward, says of the Galaxy: "It's not just a facelift, but a whole new vehicle and a big step forward. The quality is much improved and the fold-flat seat system makes it much more functional."


On sale in June, Ford S-MAX and Ford Galaxy are competitively priced, with models starting from 16,995 UK Pounds and 19,495 UK Pounds respectively and both offer low insurance ratings starting from just 10E.
