JL Audio Releases All-new W1v2 Subwoofer Drivers
JL Audio announced that it has begun shipping the eagerly anticipated W1v2 subwoofer drivers to authorized dealers throughout the U.S.A. and Canada. The new lineup consists of 10-inch, 12-inch and 13.5-inch models, all optimized for operation in compact sealed and ported enclosures.
Manville Smith, V.P. of Marketing for JL Audio says, "While the W1v2's replace the long-standing WØ's as the most affordable JL Audio drivers, they really represent a huge leap forward in performance. Our engineering team applied a lot of the technologies developed for our flagship products in order to make these our best-performing value-priced woofers ever."
The W1v2 subwoofers offer enhanced power handling by combining JL Audio's Patented VRC and Elevated Frame cooling technologies. The ten and twelve inch models are rated for 150 watts continuous power, while the 13.5-inch model is rated for 200 watts continuous power. Additional technologies include the company's patented Floating Cone Attach Method along with an innovative, insert-molded spider assembly with integral push-terminals and special strain-relief features. Surrounds and outer frame gaskets are molded as one piece to enhance reliability.
As with JL Audio's flagship drivers, and in keeping with JL Audio's "sound-quality-first" philosophy, the W1v2's development was guided by JL Audio's proprietary DMA modeling system to deliver outstanding dynamic stability and low-distortion operation within their intended power envelope.
JL Audio CEO and Chief Engineer Lucio Proni says, "We set out to extract maximum performance and reliability from this product and were able to incorporate some of our most advanced assembly and cooling technologies to aid in these pursuits." Mr. Proni further added, "The other important goal was to decrease mounting depth while not compromising excursion capability… We were able to reduce depths by over an inch, compared to the WØ's, while delivering more linear and mechanical excursion than the old product… and they also work in smaller enclosures than the WØ's."
The W1v2 Subwoofers are finished with a striking new look for JL Audio - a completely new, silver powdercoated, stamped-steel basket supporting an injection-molded, metallic-finish polypropylene cone with an embossed metallic JL Audio logo. As with the high-end W6v2 subwoofers, a removable mounting flange trim ring can be customized and can also receive grille-mesh inserts directly, without the need for additional grille hardware. (Grille mesh inserts are sold separately.)
