The heart of the electronics of the Gallardo is the Lamborghini LIE motor management, which is based on the excellent know-how of Lamborghini in this sector.
This system is connected with the Lamborghini GFA vehicle computer as well as e-gear, ESP / ABS, the control units in the instrument panels and other satellite-control units (door modules, air conditioning, rear spoiler, comfort/infotainment) via a highly develop CAN-BUS network.
In order to improve the direct control over the most important functions and the driving safety, all relevant information and warnings are centrally indicated in the console panel. A separate electronic control unit supervises the function of the airbags.
The main functions are:Engine: - gas control via drive-by-wire
- management of fuel injection (multipoint sequential) and ignition (spark plugs with integrated spark coil
- management of the intake system with variable geometry
- management of the variable valve control
- management of the system for on-board diagnostics
- management of emission control.
- "Black-Box-Recorder"
Vehicle:
- electronic gear shift (e-gear)
- electronic stabilisation programme (ESP) including ASR, ABS with electronic brake power distribution as well as automatic braking differential (ABD) on front
- control of air conditioning
- control of console panel and the comfort-infotainment-management
Space frame and body
Together with the perfect tuning of the suspension, weight distribution, centre of gravity and aerodynamics a high rigidity of the body is inevitable for guaranteeing optimal vehicle dynamics and driving pleasure also on long distances.
With the Gallardo the Lamborghini engineers have decided for an aluminium technology, which was developed by AUDI, the world-wide leading manufacturer on this area.
The final solution is a Space-Frame structure, which is based on extruded aluminium sheath. These are welded to connecting elements made of aluminium cast. The exterior parts of the aluminium body are mounted on the frame structure whereby the type of connection (riveting, screwing or welding) depends on the function of the part. Other external "add-on parts" (like the bumpers) consist of thermoplastic material and are screwed.
With this an excellent warping rigidity (over 23.000 Nm/degree) is achieved which is distinguished through an optimal ratio between rigidity and weight as well as exceeding energy absorption proven by crash tests.
Due to the low weight of Space Frame and aluminium body, a dry weight totally only 1.430 kg was achieved.
