| Pontiac Game Changing Performance kicks-off Third NCAA Football Season Over $200,000 in scholarships is on the line With One Click Fans Can Vote for Top Weekly Plays and Register to Win a $5,000 College Scholarship
For the third year, Pontiac and NCAA ® Football are challenging fans nationwide to support their teams. With nearly $200,000 in general scholarship contributions on the line, spectators can "get in the game" by voting on the "Pontiac Game Changing Performance," the first and only fan-voted scholarship program. For 13 straight weeks ESPN's College Game Day crew will determine the four "Pontiac Game Changing Performances." Beginning August 31, every Sunday morning, fans can go to pontiac.com/ncaa to help determine which school will earn a $5,000 scholarship. The school that receives the most votes for that week will be announced during the Pontiac Performance Halftime Report on ESPN Thursday night games.
New to this year's program is that each week one lucky individual who visits pontiac.com/ncaa will win a $5,000 scholarship for themselves or their family. In total, Pontiac will be providing over $200,000 worth of scholarships to universities and individuals.
"With the help of NCAA ® Football and our television network partners, Pontiac once again is honored to play a role in advancing college athletics," said Dino Bernacchi, Pontiac Advertising Manager. "By allowing the fans to actively participate in the excitement of the game, Game Changing Performance encourages schools and their fans to put their team on top, but the real winners are the students that directly benefit from the scholarship money."
During the 2005 NCAA college football season, the Pontiac Game Changing Performance website was visited more than two million times, and more than 600,000 votes were cast. As a result, Pontiac contributed nearly $200,000 into the general scholarship funds of the winning NCAA schools.
In December voters will have another opportunity to voice their opinion, by determining which school wins the $100,000 Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Year award. Last year's $100,000 Game Changing Performance of the Year was awarded to the University of Alabama.
"The Pontiac Game Changing Performance Program is an example of how fan enthusiasm can be a factor in generating scholarship dollars for university-wide programs," said Dennis Poppe, NCAA Managing Director for Baseball and Football. " Pontiac has created a successful program that has a positive impact academically and athletically at our member schools. NCAA student-athletes get deserved recognition for their accomplishments and all students have an opportunity to benefit from the general scholarship fund, so it's a win-win situation."
