Best-in-class safety

New Trafic LCV and New Master offer comfort and safety worthy of a grand tourer, with reassuring roadholding, precise braking, and new features such as Emergency Brake Assist and adaptive ESP.


Safer braking, with better response

The braking system on Renault Trafic LCV and Renault Master is designed to provide top-of-the-range models with braking performance comparable to that of a passenger car, in terms of braking distance and driver response, under all load conditions. It uses four disc brakes (with dual-piston calipers at the front) with an automatic wear adjustment system. The system is sized for braking power and resistance to overheating. ABS (with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist) ensures rapid application of full braking power without the risk of wheel-lock, to ensure uninterrupted control of vehicle trajectory.



Reassuring ride and handling

Another enhancement with respect to the previous generation of vehicles is adaptive ESP for New Master (already available on Trafic phase 1). This system, specially designed for light commercial vehicles, includes a load detection unit which adapts system response to vehicle load to ensure sound vehicle behaviour under all usage conditions. New Trafic LCV is comparable to an MPV in steering precision and suspension comfort, thanks to a front suspension technology derived from MPV developments, featuring MacPherson-type suspension with anti-roll bar with articulated mounting to the spring / shock absorber unit.

At the rear, the torsion beam suspension with trailing arms and Panhard rod gives excellent acoustic performance (owing to efficient filtering of the vibrations responsible for road noise) and dynamic response comparable to that of the best MPVs on the market. To minimize variations in vehicle attitude and roadholding at different loads, shock absorber calibration adjusts automatically to vehicle load, and suspension flexibility is also variable.

The New Renault Master chassis accommodates heavier loads, with a double-delta front suspension system with upper swingarm, and wide track for precise steering and roadholding on any type of road surface in any weather. A front suspension system with independent wheels ensures steering efficacy and suspension comfort at all load levels.



Renault, leading European LCV brand since 1998

Consistent with Renault's expansion and international development strategy, the Light Commercial Vehicles Division again reported excellent performance in 2005, sustaining its market-leading position through timely product renewal (Renault Kangoo, Trafic, Master), a successful strategic partnership policy (with General Motors Europe on Trafic, for example) and development of a network of Business Centres specializing in light commercial vehicles.

Renault led the LCV market in Western Europe for the eighth year running in 2005, with a market share of 14.6%. Registrations across a highly successful product range increased by 1.3% in 2005, to reach 294,756 vehicles. With Trafic and Master, Renault held its number-three position on the van segment, with a market share of 12.4%.

Renault ranks top of the LCV - Light Commercial Vehicle market in France, Belgium and Portugal, and holds second place in Italy, Holland and Spain.

Outside Western Europe, progress in 2005 was even more pronounced, with sales up by nearly 20%, at 59,327 vehicles. Turkey is Renault's biggest market outside Western Europe (31,428 vehicles sold in 2005, up by 11.7% on 2004), followed by Mercosur (over 10,000 vehicles sold). Vigorous performance is observed on many other markets, with LCV sales up by 60% in Romania (1,084 vehicles), by 104% in Mexico (3,133 vehicles), and by 137% in Russia (1,084 vehicles).
