New SEAT Leon FR Stars at the SEAT Stand at 2006 Madrid Motor Show
- The long-awaited SEAT Leon FR is available with a 170 hp 2.0 TDI and 200 hp 2.0 TFSI engine - The 200 hp 2.0 TFSI Altea is also on display in Madrid - The SEAT Leon WTCC, Leon Supercopa and Ibiza Vaillante are also a must-see
This morning, the SEAT stand at the Madrid Motor Show witnessed the presentation of the new Leon FR, a vehicle that holds all the necessary features to repeat the performance of the previous generation's sales success and popularity.
The new Leon FR is powered by two different engines. On one hand, the 200 hp petrol 2.0 TFSI, which gives the Leon a performance potential of 229 km/h top speed and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 7.3 seconds. The 170 hp 2.0 TDI diesel engine boosts the Leon FR to 214 km/h and requires 8.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill. On the outside, the front end features an over-sized bumper compared to the rest of the range, and an enormous honeycomb-patterned front grille. The rear bumper is black at the bottom, with a polished stainless steel twin tailpipe beneath. The sides feature the trademark silver coloured door mirrors. The SEAT Leon FR does not let its fans down on the inside either, which features a fully sporty atmosphere. The front seats are snug and feature the FR letters embroidered on the backs. The specific FR steering wheel has perforated side grips and an FR logo inset on the lower part, and a leather gearknob, two exclusive features of these versions. The new petrol engine 200 hp 2.0 TFSI Altea FR can be admired next to the Leon FR at the SEAT stand. This model reaches a top speed of 220 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. It is worthwhile to point out that both models, as well as the rest of the Leon, Altea and Toledo ranges, are equipped with substantial novelties, such as the advanced front illumination system (AFS), and the possibility of connecting external MP3 devices. This last feature is also available on the SEAT Ibiza and SEAT Cordoba.
SEAT Leon WTCC, Leon Supercopa and Ibiza Vaillante The SEAT stand is also showcasing a sample of the Leon WTCC that is making great strides at the World Touring Car Championship. An obvious example is the result of last weekend's race at Brands Hatch, where the SEAT drivers topped the podium after the first race and took near-perfect positions in the second, currently leading the championship's drivers and manufacturers classification. The SEAT stand also has room to show off the competition-built Leon Supercopa, whose spectacular race season opening last Sunday at Madrid's Jarama track was followed by a magnificent turnout. Finally, the impressive Ibiza Vaillante is another must-see at the Madrid show. This striking prototype was designed by Luc Donckerwolke, who drew his inspiration from the comic-book hero Michel Vaillant.
