Toyo Proxes RA1 Selected as the Exclusive Tire of SCCA Spec Mazda Miata






After extensive evaluation and testing of products from five leading tire manufacturers, Sports Car Club of America announced that the Toyo Tires Proxes RA1 would be the Exclusive Tire for the SCCA Club Racing Spec Miata class in National Competition from 2006 through 2008.


More than 4,200-miles of track testing at Heartland Park Topeka conducted by the SCCA rated the various tires based on durability, consistency, drivability and performance. The four-day test included an assortment of Mazda Miata racecars equipped with 1.6 and 1.8-liter engines. After the grueling track test, the data was analyzed and the top three tire companies were selected to submit proposals. A final "ultimate winner" was based on parameters such as pricing, contingency, trackside and corporate support. Toyo Tires and the Proxes RA1 bested the competition, proving once again the performance, consistency and value of the Proxes RA1 and Toyo's commitment to the sport of racing. Jeremy Thoennes, Club Racing Technical Manager, Sports Car Club of America, stated "...Toyo Tires was the clear choice".


According to Travis Roffler, Senior Director of Marketing, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corporation, "The Proxes RA1 was first developed for SCCA Club Racing. The RA1 is the Official Tire of SPEED World Challenge and continues to solidify its position in racing as the Exclusive Tire for Spec Miata. We are excited to be involved with this competitive series, enjoying a relationship since it was first conceived." The overall contingency program by Toyo Tires for 2006 will total $85,000 in cash with payouts for each National event, year-end divisional standings and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
