Toyota at the Geneva Motor Show 2005
Creativity and innovation set the tone for Toyota booth

  • The all-new Toyota AYGO makes its world debut
  • Toyota Avensis receives two new 2.2-litre D-4D diesel engines
  • Toyota Prius, European Car of the Year 2005, will be shown at the stand
  • Toyota's F1 car is also on display

Toyota wants to welcome all the visitors of the Geneva Motor Show 2005 with a brand new stand design that represents a next step in terms of creativity and innovation. These values are also defended by two new products, to be shown for the first time at the Toyota press conference - 1st of March, 11:15 AM, hall 4.

World debut for Toyota AYGO

  • A joint-venture with PSA Peugeot Citroën
  • AYGO is a combination of two syllables: 'I' and 'go'
  • Produced at TPCA plant in Czech Republic

Following its productive collaboration with PSA Peugeot Citroën (PSA), Toyota is now close to realising the fruit of the joint venture to design, develop and produce three all-new, small passenger cars for the European market.

Toyota's small car has been named "AYGO", which stems from a combination of the two syllables 'I' and 'go', to symbolise mobility and ease of use. And, in line with its name, the car promises an engaging driving experience in the urban environment.

Developed on a common platform, all three cars will roll off the line at the Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile (TPCA) plant in Kolín, Czech Republic, from the beginning of 2005. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles, with Toyota aiming at producing 100,000 AYGOs a year.

The project is expected to contribute widely to the local community in terms of direct and indirect employment. It has already created 1,500 jobs at TPCA, with 1,500 more people expected to be hired, for a total of 3,000. Total investment, including research, development and production start-up costs, is estimated at €1.5 billion.

New 2.2 D-4D engines for Avensis

  • Class-leading power and torque
  • Low levels of fuel consumption
  • Setting the segment benchmark for NVH

Toyota continues to expand its D-4D engine range with two brand new 2.2-litre units developed to join the current 2.0-litre D-4D, EURO IV engine (116 DIN hp/85 kW) in the Avensis line-up.
